The Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR) has declared 23 bottled water brands as unsafe for human consumption due to contamination identified in a national quality survey. These findings highlight serious concerns over bottled water safety across major cities.
PCRWR’s quarterly inspection revealed multiple types of contamination:
- Elevated sodium levels in brands like New Mehran, Aqua 111, Nice Pure Max, Pure Drinking Water, and others.
- High arsenic levels were detected in brands such as Atco Drinking Water, Aqua Nest, Pani, and New Mountain.
- A potassium exceedance found in Vey Forever.
- Bacterial contamination in brands including Noble Pure, Aqua King, Maa Jee, Freshin, Clear, and Iceland, among others.
Consumers are urged to verify brand quality before purchasing and avoid unsafe water options. The public is encouraged to refer to official water testing resources for updates and detailed safety assessments.
This announcement underscores the wider issue of water safety in Pakistan. Previous studies indicate that a significant percentage of bottled water brands fail to meet regulatory standards due to chemical and microbial contamination. With rising public health concerns, strict monitoring and awareness are essential in ensuring safe drinking water.
