The University of Karachi (KU) has announced the suspension of all classes and examinations scheduled for today, March 2nd. This decision has been made in a show of solidarity with the victims of recent attacks in Iran.
According to a notification from the university registrar, academic activities at KU will be halted for the entire day. This suspension is intended as a tribute to the martyrdom of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and to honor the lives of over 200 innocent men, women, and children who perished in the attacks.
All examinations scheduled for March 2nd have been postponed, and the university will announce new dates in due course. Students and staff are encouraged to observe the day with respect and solidarity for the victims.
Reports indicate that the Iranian government confirmed Khamenei’s martyrdom following joint air strikes by Israel and the United States, which commenced on February 28th. The government of Iran has declared 40 days of public mourning, including seven days of official public holidays, according to state media. Following Khamenei’s martyrdom, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and two other senior officials are expected to lead Iran during a transitional period.
The strikes, launched by Israel and the United States on Saturday, have intensified regional tensions. This event follows threats from US President Donald Trump to dismantle Iran’s missile arsenal and prevent its nuclear development. In response, Tehran launched a significant missile barrage targeting Gulf states and Israel, marking a serious escalation in regional hostilities.
