US Diplomat Highlights Economic Ties During Karachi Visit

During her recent visit to Karachi, US Charge d’ Affaires Natalie Baker underscored the United States’ dedication to strengthening trade and investment relations with Pakistan. She emphasized that private sector leadership and robust economic collaboration are vital for mutual prosperity.

According to a statement released by the US embassy on Friday, the diplomat was in Karachi from April 23-24. During this time, she engaged with top executives from prominent Pakistani companies to deliberate on prevailing economic trends, potential investment opportunities, and strategies designed to bolster commercial cooperation.

The discussions centered on Pakistan’s ongoing collaboration with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), initiatives aimed at enhancing the business environment, and the promotion of greater regional trade connectivity.

“The United States highly values its economic partnership with Pakistan and recognizes strong business alliances as essential for fostering shared prosperity,” Baker stated.

Baker also held discussions with Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and other governmental figures to explore avenues for enhanced economic partnership. Their dialogue encompassed reciprocal trade, collaborations in the energy sector, and advancements in science and technology.

Furthermore, during a session with the American Business Council, she interacted with representatives from US-affiliated firms to examine the prospects within Pakistan’s expanding technology industry.

“Pakistan’s burgeoning tech sector demonstrates how open, equitable, and competitive markets can stimulate innovation, increase exports, and generate employment opportunities that mutually benefit both our nations,” she added.

The visit spotlighted fresh opportunities to broaden US-Pakistan collaboration in commerce, investment, and business, thereby facilitating export growth, attracting investment, and creating jobs, ultimately reinforcing both countries and enhancing safety and prosperity.
