Tsitsipas Concludes ‘Intense’ Coaching Stint with Ivanisevic
Stefanos Tsitsipas, the Greek tennis sensation and three-time ATP Masters 1000 champion, revealed on Wednesday the conclusion of his coaching alliance with Goran Ivanisevic, former Wimbledon victor.
The Greek athlete communicated this update via his social media platforms, characterizing the partnership as an ‘intense’ yet invaluable phase in his career.
“My time with Goran Ivanisevic was a brief, intense, and truly valuable chapter in my journey,” Tsitsipas stated.
The 26-year-old, presently holding the world number 29 rank, enlisted Ivanisevic in May, aiming to improve after a string of disappointing showings at major tournaments.
Tsitsipas, a French Open finalist in 2021 and Australian Open finalist in 2023, anticipated Ivanisevic’s expertise would revitalize his performance on prominent stages.
Nevertheless, their collaboration ended prematurely after Tsitsipas had to withdraw from his first-round Wimbledon match in June, due to a back injury while trailing 6-3, 6-2 against Valentin Royer, a French qualifier.
This early departure compounded his difficulties in Grand Slam events, marked by a mere single quarterfinal appearance in his past nine majors.
Expressing his appreciation for Ivanisevic, Tsitsipas emphasized the value of his coaching abilities and personal qualities.
“I am thankful for the time, dedication, and commitment he offered to me and my team,” Tsitsipas remarked.
“As we part ways, I hold only respect for Goran, not just for his accomplishments in tennis, but also for his character. I wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”
Ivanisevic, renowned for his Wimbledon victory in 2001, is also highly regarded for his coaching achievements. He was a key member of Novak Djokovic’s team for several years, aiding the Serbian player in securing nine of his 24 Grand Slam titles before his departure in March of the previous year.
