Veteran Journalist Zubeida Mustafa Passes Away

Zubeida Mustafa, a respected Pakistani journalist, died in Karachi on Wednesday at the age of 84. Her career was defined by courageous journalism, advocacy for social causes, and a firm dedication to truth.

Mustafa’s journalism career spanned more than three decades, during which she became well-known for her work promoting women’s empowerment, children’s rights, and the concerns of average people.

Fazil Jamili, President of the Karachi Press Club (KPC), and Secretary Sohail Afzal Khan released a statement calling her an “institution.” They emphasized that her “unwavering commitment to truth” and “relentless pursuit of social justice” inspired generations of journalists, especially women in a traditionally male-dominated field.

The KPC expressed deep sadness at her death, adding, “Her work on social issues, education, and health had a particularly significant impact, demonstrating her great compassion and commitment to bettering lives.”

The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) also honored Mustafa, stating that she “championed social, cultural, and language rights like few others” and consistently supported the oppressed.

The HRCP described her loss as “irreparable” and expressed condolences to her family and coworkers.

Her fearless voice and ethical reporting made her a role model for many, and her loss will be keenly felt throughout the media community.
