KARAK: A tragic traffic collision on the Indus Highway near Lakki Ghundaki in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Karak on Tuesday resulted in the deaths of at least 10 individuals, with eight others sustaining injuries. The accident occurred when a trailer and a passenger van collided head-on.
Upon receiving reports of the incident, rescue officials promptly arrived at the scene. They reported that the force of the collision had trapped several passengers inside the severely damaged van.
Local residents joined the rescue personnel, assisting in the efforts to extricate the injured and recover the deceased from the wreckage.
Rescue authorities confirmed that the bodies of the 10 victims were transported to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital in Karak. Medical teams are currently administering care to the eight individuals who were injured in the crash.
According to the district emergency officer, the injured include two women and two children. Furthermore, four individuals in critical condition were transferred to Peshawar for advanced medical treatment.
The officer also stated that all those involved in the accident were from Miran Shah.
Police have apprehended the trailer driver, who was also injured in the accident.
Traffic accidents are a recurring problem in Pakistan, frequently resulting in fatalities. During the recent Eid ul Fitr celebrations, authorities reported that at least 112 people were injured in various traffic incidents in Punjab’s Taunsa district.
Karachi has recently experienced a concerning increase in traffic accidents, leading to a high number of casualties. Authorities are being urged to implement measures to address this alarming trend.
On Sunday, another fatal road accident occurred in Karachi’s New Chali area, where two motorcyclists were killed after being struck by a trailer.
This incident followed another tragedy on Saturday, where a four-year-old boy was killed by a speeding water tanker in Baldia Town. The child, Affan, was playing near a local playground when the incident happened. His uncle alleged that the tanker operators were illegally occupying the area.
