Onana Joins Trabzonspor on Loan
Manchester United’s goalkeeper, Andre Onana, has officially been loaned to Turkish team Trabzonspor for a season, as confirmed by the Premier League club on Thursday.
Onana’s move to the Turkish Super League follows an inconsistent two-year period at Old Trafford. His underwhelming performance at the beginning of this season led to Atlay Bayinder replacing the Cameroon international as United’s primary goalkeeper.
Reports indicate that there is no fee associated with the loan, nor is there an option for a permanent transfer. This implies Onana will return to Manchester next summer. Sources also confirm that Manchester United will not be responsible for covering Onana’s salary during the loan period.
The 29-year-old’s decision to depart comes after Senne Lammens’ arrival from Antwerp on the transfer deadline day. This is despite Onana’s initial desire to remain and compete for his position earlier in the summer.
Onana initially joined Manchester United from Inter Milan in 2023 for a deal valued at approximately 43.8 million pounds ($59.1 million).
Manchester United released a statement expressing their best wishes to Onana as he joins Trabzonspor on loan.
The club stated, “Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has joined Trabzonspor on loan for the 2025/26 season, pending international clearance and registration. This transfer was finalized before the Turkish transfer window closed on Friday. We extend our best wishes to Andre.”
During his two seasons with Manchester United, he played in 102 matches and was instrumental in the team’s victory in the Football Association (FA) Cup in 2024.
Onana, who is currently on international duty with Cameroon, might debut for Trabzonspor in their match against Fenerbahce on Sunday.
