TDAP Approves Initiatives to Boost Export Competitiveness
The Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) sanctioned a set of strategic actions during its 12th board meeting in Islamabad on Monday. These initiatives are designed to enhance the nation’s export capabilities and broaden its access to diverse markets.
The session, presided over by Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan and attended by high-ranking government officials and TDAP board members, focused on bolstering trade facilitation and export competitiveness, according to a statement.
Key approvals encompassed the Annual Business Plan for the fiscal year 2025-26, participation in over 120 international exhibitions, ‘Made in Pakistan’ Exhibitions in Ethiopia and Bangladesh, alongside national exhibitions, seminars centered on export promotion, and nationwide export training programs.
To reinforce regional trade infrastructure, the board gave the green light for the establishment of display centers, conference rooms, and IT accelerators at TDAP’s Quetta and Sialkot regional offices. Sialkot will also feature dedicated facilities for sports goods and surgical instruments.
The board further supported measures aimed at encouraging greater involvement of female entrepreneurs in international trade exhibitions.
Jam emphasized the need to redirect Pakistan’s export focus toward emerging international markets, reducing reliance on traditional destinations.
“This strategy will aid in diversifying export opportunities and lessening dependence on a limited number of regions,” he stated.
The Commerce Minister also suggested integrating specialized researchers within TDAP to undertake sector-specific analyses and offer data-driven insights, thereby enhancing the authority’s planning and policy support functions.
While recognizing the potential for further enhancements, Jam acknowledged the ongoing endeavors to reorganize TDAP into a more export-focused entity, attuned to the evolving demands of global commerce.
The meeting concluded with the endorsement of enhanced promotional assistance for Pakistan’s trade missions located abroad and the approval of pivotal recommendations presented by the TDAP board’s sub-committees.
