Tanvir Lauds Babar, Recalls ‘Classic’ Innings
Sohail Tanvir, the former Test cricketer, identified Babar Azam as the premier ‘brand’ and ‘most celebrated star’ in Pakistani cricket on Friday.
During a discussion on a social media platform, Tanvir commended Babar’s immense popularity, noting the palpable excitement among crowds in Karachi, Multan, and Rawalpindi whenever the batting star appears.
Tanvir stated, “Babar has rightfully earned this affection and respect through years of unwavering dedication and outstanding displays for Pakistan.”
He further commented, “He has brought global recognition to Pakistan, and it’s always a delight to witness his run-scoring prowess.”
Tanvir specifically lauded Babar’s recent showing against Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10 game held at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium on Thursday.
The former pace bowler mentioned that Babar’s match-winning performance against the Qalandars evoked memories of a ‘classic’ Babar Azam innings.
“Watching him bat that day felt like seeing the vintage Babar Azam in action. His shots against the fast bowlers were an exhibition of pure class — exactly the kind of shots he’s known for.”
In that particular game, Babar played a vital innings of 56 runs from 42 deliveries, which included seven boundaries and one six.
The 40-year-old highlighted that the innings served as a reminder of Babar’s exceptional timing and technique, hinting at a return to his best form.
Throughout PSL 10 thus far, Babar has participated in five matches, accumulating 105 runs, with his highest score being the aforementioned 56-run innings against the Qalandars.
Discussing the pitch conditions at Gaddafi Stadium, Sohail Tanvir remarked that the surface remains consistent with its traditional characteristics.
He elaborated, “Gaddafi Stadium is renowned for its slower pace. High speed is not a common feature here, which makes it a favorable batting surface if a player applies themselves correctly.”
