FBR Exempts Withholding Tax on Specific Medicine Imports
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has provided an exemption from withholding tax on the import of particular medicines, specifically Cystagon/Systagon capsules.
In a recent development, the FBR has officially released notification SRO 722(I)/2025 on Thursday, outlining this exemption.
As per the details of the notification, the FBR has waived the withholding tax under section 148 of the Income Tax Ordinance for importing the aforementioned medications. This is applicable when the medicines are intended for the personal therapeutic use of immediate family members and are supported by a No Objection Certificate (NOC) issued by the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations, and Coordination.
