South Korea and US to Hold Trade Talks in Washington

At the behest of the United States, South Korea and the United States are scheduled to engage in trade discussions this week in Washington, according to a statement released Sunday by Seoul’s trade ministry.

The meetings will involve Finance Minister Choi Sang-mok and Trade Minister Ahn Duk-geun, who will confer with Trade Representative Jamieson Greer and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. These discussions will occur during the International Monetary Fund and World Bank spring meetings, the ministry stated.

South Korea aims to mitigate the 25% “reciprocal” tariff previously declared by President Donald Trump. Although Trump had initially imposed high tariffs on numerous countries, he has since paused them, including the one affecting South Korea.

Minister Ahn is scheduled to depart on Wednesday, the statement noted, while omitting specific details regarding the meeting’s agenda.
