South Africa Announces Squads for England White-Ball Series
Cricket South Africa (CSA) has revealed its squads for the upcoming away white-ball series against England, which is scheduled from September 2 to 14.
The Proteas are currently in Australia for a limited-overs tour, featuring three T20Is and three ODIs. Upon completion of this tour, they will head to England for another important white-ball series.
The tour will commence with a three-match ODI series at Headingley, Lord’s, and The Rose Bowl on September 2, 4, and 7, respectively.
The majority of the ODI squad that secured a 2-0 lead over Australia has been retained. Left-arm pacer Kwena Maphaka, initially slated for an A series against New Zealand, will remain with the squad as cover for Kagiso Rabada.
Rabada is currently nursing an ankle injury and will undergo assessment upon arrival in England.
Following the ODI series, South Africa and England will compete in a three-match T20I series, to be held in Cardiff, Manchester, and Nottingham on September 10, 12, and 14, respectively.
The T20I squad sees the return of experienced spinner Keshav Maharaj, who was absent from the previous two series as the team explored other spin options.
Pacers Lizaad Williams and Marco Jansen have also been named in the T20I squad following injury layoffs. Williams last played for South Africa in October of the previous year, after undergoing knee surgery. Jansen has been sidelined with a thumb injury sustained during the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia in June.
Middle-order batter David Miller also makes a return, having been excused from the tour of Australia due to his commitments with Northern Superchargers in The Hundred.
As a result, Rassie van der Dussen, George Linde, and Nqaba Peter have not been included in the T20I squad.
Emerging off-spinner Prenelan Subrayen, who was reported for a suspect bowling action during the first ODI against Australia, will undergo testing in Brisbane next week and has also been omitted.
