Sheeraz Expresses Honour at Potential Alvarez Bout

NEW YORK: Following a dominant fifth-round stoppage victory against Edgar Berlanga in their super middleweight clash at Louis Armstrong Stadium on Saturday, British boxing sensation Hamzah Sheeraz mentioned the possibility of a future fight with Saul Alvarez.

Sheeraz floored Berlanga twice in the fourth round before securing a TKO triumph early in the fifth.

Although Berlanga commenced the fight strongly, experiencing success in the opening round, Sheeraz maintained composure, carefully assessed the situation, and subsequently shifted gears.

During the post-fight press conference, Sheeraz conveyed that a prospective match against Alvarez would be a privilege.

He further stated that should he be granted the chance to compete against Canelo Alvarez, he would engage him directly, showcasing his finest abilities.

Sheeraz remarked, “Sharing the ring with someone I’ve admired would genuinely be an honour, and the next moment, you’re facing them in the ring.”

“One thing I can assure is that if I ever share the ring with Canelo, it won’t resemble his last fight, where his opponent [William Scull] attempted to evade engagement. I assure you, it’s on record… Even if I suffer a knockout, I’ll stand my ground and trade with him.”

“I’ll deliver a compelling performance because it’s about aspiring to greatness, and that’s precisely what I’ll do.”

Sheeraz’s new coach, Andy Lee, garnered significant praise for his contributions. Despite having worked together for only a few weeks prior to the Berlanga fight, their collaboration quickly yielded positive results.
