Saud Hails Nawaz and Nafay as Future Stars in PSL 10

LAHORE: Quetta Gladiators’ captain, Saud Shakeel, has voiced considerable optimism regarding two emerging players, Hassan Nawaz and Khawaja Nafay, identifying them as potential future assets for Pakistan’s national cricket squad.

In remarks made prior to the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10 Qualifier against the reigning champions, Islamabad United, slated for May 21 in Lahore, Saud lauded their displays and inherent abilities.

“Hassan Nawaz demonstrated a wide array of shots and was crucial in securing our victories,” Saud commented. “The showings of players such as Hassan Nawaz and Khawaja Nafay are highly positive indicators for Pakistan cricket. Both possess the talent to potentially represent Pakistan at the international level soon.”

Hassan has distinguished himself as a key performer for the Gladiators throughout the ongoing PSL 10.

He presently holds the position of fifth-highest run-scorer in the competition, amassing 317 runs across 10 matches with an impressive average of 63.40 and a strike rate of 159.29.

His run accumulation encompasses two half-centuries and a century, underscoring his steadiness and ability to influence match outcomes.

Saud Shakeel also reflected on the Gladiators’ journey thus far, accentuating the team’s growth and frame of mind as they approach the vital qualifier match.

“We have showcased commendable cricket throughout the entirety of PSL. The objective of securing a top finish in the league stage signifies that we have performed well. Currently, our undivided attention is on the qualifier, with the aim of securing a spot in the final,” he stated.

While satisfied with the team’s showing, the opening batter emphasised that avenues for enhancement remain.

“There is consistently scope for refinement across all facets. Khawaja Nafay seized his opportunity and delivered a strong performance. We competed in the entire tournament with Finn Allen; we have not yet deliberated on the final eleven or player positioning,” he added.

The 29-year-old also contemplated the team’s performance and acknowledged Hassan Nawaz’s contribution.

“In tournaments, we initially faced a slow start, but subsequently staged a strong recovery through batting. Upon Hassan Nawaz’s inclusion, there was confidence in his capabilities. Initially, there was ambiguity regarding Hassan Nawaz’s batting order; irrespective of the recognition Hassan receives, it will be insufficient,” he concluded.

Notably, the 2018 champions led the PSL 10 points table with seven triumphs and two defeats across 10 games, with one match abandoned due to rain.
