Thunder Set to Clash with Nuggets in Decisive Game 6 in Denver
OKLAHOMA CITY: In a gripping contest, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander shone as the Oklahoma City Thunder defeated the Denver Nuggets 112-105 on Tuesday night at Paycom Center, seizing a 3-2 advantage in their NBA Western Conference semifinal matchup.
Gilgeous-Alexander spearheaded the Thunder’s attack with an impressive 31 points, along with seven assists and six rebounds. Jalen Williams also played a vital role, contributing 18 points, nine rebounds, and four assists.
“Exceptional players demonstrate resilience when faced with difficulties,” Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault remarked regarding Gilgeous-Alexander’s performance.
“I observed that he grew increasingly composed as the game progressed. Despite the rising pressure, he maintained his composure and made astute decisions, allowing the game to guide his actions,” he added.
Although Denver’s Nikola Jokic dominated with 44 points, 15 rebounds, and five assists, his efforts were insufficient to counter Oklahoma City’s late-game surge.
The Nuggets maintained a lead through the first three quarters with scores of 28-27, 28-27, and 30-24, establishing an eight-point lead heading into the final quarter.
However, the Thunder launched a determined comeback, ignited by Lu Dort’s three three-pointers within a two-minute span, narrowing Denver’s lead to 92-90 midway through the fourth quarter.
With 1:18 remaining, Jalen Williams sank a critical three-pointer, propelling Oklahoma City to a 106-103 lead. Gilgeous-Alexander then followed up with another crucial long-range shot in the final minute, extending the lead to six and securing the win.
The Thunder aim to conclude the best-of-seven series in Game 6, which will be held on Thursday in Denver.
