Shadab Khan Champions PSL’s Role in Elevating Player Performance

KARACHI: Following Islamabad United’s dominant six-wicket triumph over Karachi Kings at the National Bank Cricket Stadium on Sunday, skipper Shadab Khan passionately defended the Pakistan Super League (PSL) during the post-game press conference.

In response to a question concerning the PSL’s impact on Pakistan cricket, especially in light of certain players’ underwhelming international showings despite strong PSL statistics, Shadab offered a forthright assessment.

“The most talented local players compete in the PSL. This implies that those who don’t perform well or aren’t even selected for the PSL are considered to be of an even lower caliber. So, how can you make a fair judgment? As a nation, we tend to be overly critical; this is a habit we need to change,” Shadab emphasized.

Notably, Islamabad United’s convincing victory reinforced their position as a formidable force in the competition.

The three-time PSL champions successfully chased down a target of 129, reaching the mark in 17.1 overs. Shadab Khan spearheaded the chase with a measured 47 scored from 40 balls.

Earlier in the day, Karachi Kings managed to score 128/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Tim Seifert was their highest scorer with 30 runs, but Islamabad’s disciplined bowling attack successfully contained the Kings. Shadab Khan claimed 2/17, while Imad Wasim (1/17) and Naseem Shah (2/29) offered crucial support.

During the chase, Sahibzada Farhan contributed a rapid 30 off 18 deliveries, while Azam Khan added a steady 31, steering United to a comfortable victory.

With this outcome, Islamabad United, under Shadab’s leadership, remains undefeated in the tournament, boasting four wins out of four matches. They currently hold the top spot in the points table with eight points and are scheduled to play Multan Sultans in their next match on April 23 at Multan Cricket Stadium.
