Security Forces Neutralize Terrorists in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Operations
Rawalpindi: According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), security forces eliminated at least five terrorists during three distinct intelligence-driven operations (IBOs) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Additionally, two individuals were taken into custody during these operations.
The military’s media division stated that an IBO in the Bajaur district resulted in the deaths of three terrorists, which included a high-value target (HVT) identified as Fareed Ullah.
Another IBO in the Dossali region of North Waziristan led to security forces killing two terrorists. Separately, two terrorists, including HVT Lal Ameer, also known as Ibrahim, were captured from their hideout in the Mohmand district.
The ISPR added that weapons and ammunition were seized from the terrorists, and ongoing sanitization operations are underway to clear the area of any remaining militants.
These actions by the security forces occurred shortly after 71 terrorists were neutralized near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in a string of successful operations conducted between April 25 and April 27.
These counter-terrorism efforts are unfolding amidst an increase in terrorist incidents within the country, which saw a 42% surge in January, as reported by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS).
Pakistan has consistently called upon Afghanistan to prevent its territory from being used by terrorists to launch attacks against Pakistan.
The two countries share a porous border stretching approximately 2,500 kilometers, featuring several crossing points that are vital for regional commerce and interpersonal connections.
However, terrorism remains a significant concern for Pakistan, which has persistently urged Afghanistan to prevent groups like the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) from using its territory to execute attacks within Pakistan.
Islamabad’s concerns have been substantiated by a report submitted to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) by the Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team, highlighting a connection between Kabul and the TTP, with Kabul allegedly providing logistical, operational, and financial support to the TTP.
