Sajid Khan Aims for County Cricket to Enhance Skills

LAHORE: Pakistani Test spinner Sajid Khan has expressed his ambition to participate in county cricket as part of his ongoing development across all forms of the game.

During the Skills Development Camp at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), Sajid told reporters of his eagerness to broaden his experience by playing competitive cricket in England.

“I am currently in discussions regarding county cricket, and details about the contract should be available soon. I am very keen to play county cricket,” Sajid stated.

The 31-year-old, a regular in Pakistan’s Test squad, is utilizing the camp to refine his abilities in limited-overs formats under the tutelage of spin bowling coach Abdul Rehman.

“I am working with Abdul Rehman on my spin bowling, particularly focusing on the arm ball and better utilizing the crease. I have been advised that white-ball cricket suits my style, so I am adapting my bowling techniques accordingly,” he explained.

He also voiced a strong desire to represent Pakistan in all white-ball formats, including the Pakistan Super League (PSL), noting his extra efforts to meet the demands of the shorter formats.

“I aspire to participate in all white-ball formats, including the PSL. I am working diligently, and, God willing, you will see me in white-ball action soon,” he added.

Despite his ambitions in white-ball cricket, the right-arm bowler reaffirmed his dedication to Test cricket, describing it as an “honor,” and advocated for more red-ball matches to improve Pakistan’s international ranking.

“Playing Test cricket is a privilege. I began my career in white-ball formats but take great pride in playing Tests. I also hope we receive more Test opportunities to help improve our rankings,” he remarked.

Speaking about the current World Test Championship cycle, Sajid expressed optimism about Pakistan’s prospects.

“Given our team’s current atmosphere, I am confident that we can reach the final of the Test Championship,” he commented.

He also shared his thoughts on the format of Test matches.

“In my opinion, four-day Tests are not ideal. I personally believe Tests should remain five days in length,” he concluded.

The spinner further lauded the camp’s learning environment, which included interactions with the newly appointed acting red-ball head coach Azhar Mahmood.

“It has been beneficial to learn from seasoned players here. Working with Azhar Mahmood has been particularly helpful for all of us,” he added.

Known for his modesty, Sajid responded graciously when asked about the various nicknames given to him by teammates and supporters.

“It’s an honor to be addressed by any name. Everyone has their own way of referring to me, and I appreciate it,” he smiled.
