Pakistani Cricketers Eye SA20 Season 4
Emerging Pakistani talent Saim Ayub is among a contingent of 40 cricketers from Pakistan who have signed up for the SA20 Season 4 auction. The event is slated for September 9 in Johannesburg.
A significant number of international players, totaling 784, have been nominated for the auction. This includes over 150 players from England, as well as prominent South African cricketers such as Aiden Markram, Lungi Ngidi, Quinton de Kock, and Tabraiz Shamsi.
The Pakistani presence is further solidified by the inclusion of Azam Khan, Imam-ul-Haq, and Abrar Ahmed alongside Saim Ayub.
Notably, despite consistent participation in previous auctions, no Pakistani player has been selected in the league’s first three seasons.
With franchises like MI Cape Town, Joburg Super Kings, Durban Super Giants, Sunrisers Eastern Cape, Paarl Royals, and Pretoria Capitals possessing a combined USD 7.4 million to fill 84 available slots, Pakistani players are keen to break through this year.
The central question is whether Season 4 will see a shift in this trend, particularly with Indian investors, including owners of IPL teams, holding substantial stakes in SA20 franchises.
The tournament is scheduled from December 26 to January 25, with MI Cape Town looking to defend their championship.
Newlands is set to host both the opening match and the final of SA20 2025-26.
The competition will commence on December 26, featuring MI Cape Town against Durban’s Super Giants, with the final match on January 25.
Qualifier 1 will be held in Durban on January 21, followed by the Eliminator in Centurion on January 23, and Qualifier 2 in Johannesburg on January 24.
It’s worth mentioning that Sunrisers Eastern Cape claimed victory in the first two SA20 editions, finishing as runners-up last season after losing to MI Cape Town.
