WrestleMania 41 Aftermath: Cena’s Victory, The Rock’s Absence, and a Heel Turn
WrestleMania 41 captivated over 65,000 attendees at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas this past weekend, delivering spectacular moments and unexpected outcomes. However, the noticeable absence of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson sparked questions among WWE followers.
Following his impactful presence at WrestleMania 40, anticipation was high for his return. Yet, this year’s event proceeded without The Great One—prompting Johnson to address his absence.
The Rock Explains His WrestleMania 41 Absence
On Tuesday, the renowned actor and WWE icon joined The Pat McAfee Show, providing clarity on his absence.
Johnson stated, “They understand when I present my perspective, stating, ‘This is how I believe it should unfold. We could integrate Final Boss toward the conclusion, but what follows?’” referencing his wrestling persona, “The Final Boss.”
He acknowledged that his choice was carefully considered, pointing to scheduling challenges and a desire to avoid overshadowing the event.
“I have other commitments, and I’m cautious about overstepping,” he explained. “I could participate in the finish, but why interfere when the focus should be on John, securing his 17th title as a heel champion?”
Ultimately, Johnson felt his contribution to the storyline had reached its natural conclusion.
“I believe The Final Boss’ work is complete,” he concluded.
John Cena’s Historic Win and Controversial Heel Turn
WrestleMania 41 culminated in a significant upset as John Cena solidified his legacy, clinching his 17th world championship—surpassing Ric Flair’s esteemed 16-title record.
In a dramatic main event, Cena triumphed over Cody Rhodes, but the victory was mired in controversy.
After an intense battle, Cena delivered a low blow, followed by striking Rhodes with the championship belt. As the referee regained consciousness, Cena pinned Rhodes—1, 2, 3—winning the match and turning heel for the first time in more than two decades.
The animosity between Cena and Rhodes had been building since Elimination Chamber in March, when Cena launched a surprise assault on Rhodes with an unexpected ally—his former rival, The Rock.
Rhodes’ previous title reign concluded just over a year after defeating Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40. Meanwhile, Cena’s latest WrestleMania moment left the WWE Universe astonished and greatly divided.
