Rangpur Riders Secure Thrilling Victory in GSL 2025

Rangpur Riders achieved their second successive triumph in the ongoing Global Super League (GSL) 2025, narrowly defeating Hobart Hurricanes by a single run at Providence Stadium on Sunday.

After being asked to bat first, the Riders managed to score a total of 151/6 in their 20 overs, propelled by an impressive innings from Kyle Mayers, who scored 67 not out from 42 balls.

Ibrahim Zadran, the opening batsman, also contributed with 43 runs off 31 balls, but the remaining batsmen struggled to maintain momentum.

Iftikhar Ahmed, the Pakistani all-rounder, had a disappointing outing, scoring only six runs before being dismissed.

Usama Mir, the Pakistani leg-spinner, delivered a remarkable bowling display for the Hurricanes, taking 3/15 in his allotted four overs. Fabian Allen secured two wickets, while Odean Smith claimed one.

In their chase, Hobart Hurricanes, led by Ben McDermott, were bowled out for 150, falling just short of the target. Mohammad Nabi was the top scorer with a well-composed 44 off 36 deliveries, while McDermott added a quick 34 off 19 balls.

Odean Smith contributed 20 runs, and Usama Mir remained unbeaten with three runs.

Khaled Ahmed was the standout performer with the ball for Rangpur, bagging 4 wickets for 26 runs in his spell of four overs.

Iftikhar Ahmed compensated for his poor batting performance by delivering an economical spell, taking 2/13 in his three overs.

Following this victory, the Riders, led by Nurul Hasan, are currently at the top of the points table with four points from two games and a net run-rate of +0.225.

Rangpur Riders’ next match is against Central Districts at the same venue on July 17.
