PDMA Punjab Issues High Alert for Impending Heatwave
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has elevated the alert status across the province, cautioning residents about a predicted surge in temperatures. A heatwave is anticipated to impact urban and plain regions from May 15th to 19th.
Irfan Ali Khan, Director General of PDMA Punjab, has directed all commissioners and deputy commissioners within the province to exercise increased vigilance. He emphasized the necessity of ensuring that all pertinent departments, notably district administrations, are prepared to alleviate possible consequences.
According to a PDMA representative, an unusual temperature escalation is projected over the coming days. It’s expected that temperatures will consistently exceed the typical average by four to seven degrees Celsius until May 20th.
The advisory also suggests a potential shift in weather conditions as the forecast period concludes.
Starting on the evening of May 19th, westerly winds are predicted to enter Punjab. The advisory states that this weather pattern is probable to bring rainfall to a majority of the province’s districts from May 19th to 20th.
PDMA’s alert highlights the critical need for individuals and relevant authorities to adopt safety measures to effectively manage the anticipated heatwave circumstances.
Citizens are encouraged to maintain adequate hydration, limit extended exposure to direct sunlight, and implement vital safeguards to shield themselves from heatstroke and associated ailments.
District administrations have received directives to ensure preparedness for any prospective emergencies stemming from the heatwave.
