The Punjab government has introduced a revised summer vacation policy for medical teaching faculty in all public medical colleges and affiliated hospitals. The policy is designed to ensure uninterrupted healthcare services while allowing faculty limited time off.

Under the new guidelines, medical teaching staff, including professors, associate professors, assistant professors, senior registrars, and demonstrators, can avail three weeks of summer leave, which will now be deducted from their earned leave balance.

To prevent service disruptions, at least 67% of clinical faculty and 50% of basic sciences faculty must remain on duty at all times. This measure ensures that patient care continues without compromise during vacation periods.

Each medical institution must form a Leave Management Committee responsible for preparing and finalizing a duty roster. These rosters are to be submitted annually by April 30. The committee will be headed by senior figures such as the Principal or Medical Superintendent, depending on the department.

The policy reinforces that leave is a facility and not a right, emphasizing balanced resource allocation and consistent medical care for the public. With these measures, the Punjab government aims to maintain healthcare quality and teaching standards across its institutions during the summer months.
