Transforming Healthcare Governance in Punjab

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced a sweeping set of reforms aimed at strengthening governance, accountability, and service delivery in Punjab’s public hospitals. Addressing a conference of CEOs and Medical Superintendents, she emphasized a pledge of zero corruption and renewed commitment to public service.

The reforms introduce Monitoring and Evaluation Assistants in hospitals to ensure transparency and efficiency. Alongside this, the government is implementing the digitalization of health facilitation operations, streamlining processes and reducing bureaucratic delays.

To further enhance accountability, administrators and procurement officers will be appointed across hospitals. This move is designed to improve resource management and ensure that medical supplies and services are delivered effectively.

A key highlight of the initiative is the introduction of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). These benchmarks will be used to assess the performance of hospital CEOs and Medical Superintendents, ensuring that leadership is held accountable for service quality and patient care.

Maryam Nawaz underscored that these reforms are not just administrative changes but a cultural shift in healthcare governance. By prioritizing transparency, efficiency, and accountability, Punjab aims to build a healthcare system that truly serves its people.

This reform package marks a significant step toward modernizing healthcare in the province, setting a precedent for other regions in Pakistan to follow.
