Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has formally announced the launch of cardiac catheterization laboratories (cath labs) in 16 district headquarters hospitals, delivering advanced angioplasty services directly to heart patients across the province.
Key Highlights:
- 16 districts selected include Attock, Jhelum, Mianwali, Kasur, Jhang, Vehari, Bahawalnagar, Layyah, Toba Tek Singh, Sheikhupura, Khanewal, Rajanpur, Bhakkar, Chakwal, Mandi Bahauddin, and Hafizabad.
- Appointment of interventional cardiologists with qualifications like FCPS, MD, or American Board credentials has commenced.
- District hospitals will be equipped with experienced cath lab technicians, nurses, and imaging technologists to ensure high-quality treatment standards.
According to officials, these labs will eliminate the need for patients to travel to major cities for angioplasty procedures, providing world-class cardiovascular care at the local level. The initiative is part of a broader plan to tackle the specialist doctor shortage and enhance district-level medical infrastructure.
In support of this goal, recruitment and deployment of skilled staff is currently underway, ensuring that angioplasty services become available across Punjab’s healthcare network, both reliably and efficiently.
