Punjab Assembly Session Disrupted by Altercation
A session of the Punjab Assembly was thrown into disarray on Monday after Khalid Nisar Dogar, a member of the opposition, slapped Hassan Riaz, a government legislator. The incident resulted in a physical confrontation and a brief recess.
The disruption unfolded during a session presided over by Acting Speaker Zahid Iqbal Channar. The altercation followed an exchange of heated words between the two members.
The situation intensified when Dogar physically assaulted Riaz, triggering a scuffle on the floor of the assembly.
In response to the chaos, the acting speaker temporarily suspended the session for five minutes in an attempt to restore order.
Subsequently, Speaker Channar engaged in discussions with leading members of the government. Following these consultations, opposition legislators were instructed to return to the assembly. Government lawmakers voiced strong disapproval of the opposition’s actions, denouncing them as “undemocratic” and “unacceptable.”
Government representatives stated, “While we can endure slogans, we cannot tolerate physical violence,” and called for disciplinary measures to be taken.
This is an ongoing story; further details will be added as they emerge.
