Punjab has approved a substantial budget allocation of Rs 26.77 billion for health development projects in the fiscal year 2025–26. The funds are intended to strengthen healthcare infrastructure, expand service delivery, and enhance preventive care across the province.

Key initiatives funded under this package include:

  • Upgrading the district and teaching hospitals with advanced medical equipment and facility expansion.
  • Rehabilitation of primary healthcare centres (BHUs and RHCs) in rural and underserved areas.
  • Construction of new mother–child care units, maternity wards, and neonatal care centres to improve maternal health.
  • Investments in emergency care units, ambulance networks, and telemedicine services to improve emergency response capacity.

Provincial health leadership emphasizes that this investment will increase access to quality care, reduce patient load on urban hospitals, and deliver preventive health services closer to communities. By modernizing health systems at both district and primary levels, Punjab aims to enhance maternal and child health outcomes while controlling infectious diseases, especially in underprivileged districts.

Long-term plans also include training local healthcare personnel, improving medical procurement systems, and digitizing outpatient and medical records. Together, these improvements are designed to improve efficiency and accountability.

Officials underscore that enhanced budget execution will require close coordination with federal health agencies and sustainable monitoring. If implemented effectively, this initiative has the potential to significantly uplift Punjab’s overall health indicators and strengthen public health resilience across the province.
