Telenor Anticipates PTCL Acquisition Approval in Coming Months
Telenor Group still expects to receive the necessary approvals for Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL)’s acquisition of Telenor Pakistan (Pvt) Ltd and Orion Towers in the months ahead. The transaction is projected to conclude in the second half of 2025.
This information was disclosed by Telenor Group in response to an inquiry from a Business Recorder.
The initial agreement stipulated that the acquisition transactions would be finalized by December 2024. However, due to delays, a revised deadline was set for the end of June 2025.
Regulatory Delays Push Back Closure
The PTCL acquisition has faced delays due to pending regulatory approvals. The transaction is now anticipated to be completed in the latter half of 2025, according to Telenor Group’s first-quarter report for 2025.
In February, Telenor Group had indicated that it expected the PTCL-Telenor merger to be finalized in the first half of 2025. However, in their latest update, the Group noted that securing the required regulatory approvals for the divestment of Telenor Pakistan is taking longer than initially expected.
PTCL has cautioned that further delays in the Competition Commission of Pakistan’s (CCP) decision regarding the acquisition of Telenor Pakistan (Pvt) Ltd and Orion Towers could potentially affect the agreement between the two entities, as the deadline approaches.
The Group CEO stated earlier that all necessary documents and information had been submitted to the CCP. He also noted that the delay in announcing a decision regarding the acquisition of Telenor Pakistan (Pvt) Ltd and Orion Towers was unusual, urging a swift resolution to eliminate uncertainty and facilitate progress.
