Power Division Clarifies Meter Installation News

The Power Division addressed reports circulating on social media on Sunday, dismissing claims of a “ban on installing two electricity meters” as entirely untrue and a deliberate attempt to incite public disturbance.

A spokesperson for the Power Division issued a statement clarifying that obtaining a second electricity meter for residential properties remains permissible under existing regulations. The statement referenced the NEPRA Consumer Services Manual 2021, which stipulates that any residential unit with a separate section, circuit, entrance, and kitchen is eligible for an additional meter installation.

The spokesperson cautioned that disseminating such misinformation is a punishable offense under the PECA Act.

The Power Division reiterated that regulations designed to prevent electricity misuse and the unwarranted acquisition of subsidies were in effect previously and are still being enforced.

The Power Division has urged citizens to disregard these misleading reports and collaborate with electricity distribution companies to ensure electricity meters are utilized properly and transparently. This cooperation will facilitate the timely and equitable distribution of benefits to eligible recipients.
