Power Division Denies Ban on Multiple Electricity Meters

The Power Division stated on Sunday that reports circulating on social media regarding a “ban on installing two electricity meters” are entirely untrue and a deliberate attempt to cause public disturbance.

A Power Division spokesperson clarified in a statement that obtaining a second electricity meter for a residential property remains permissible under current regulations. The NEPRA Consumer Services Manual 2021 stipulates that a residential unit with a separate portion, circuit, entrance, and kitchen qualifies for an additional meter.

The statement further cautioned that disseminating such false information is a punishable offense under the PECA Act.

The spokesperson emphasized that existing laws designed to prevent electricity misuse and the unjust acquisition of subsidies are still in effect.

The Power Division has urged the public to disregard these inaccurate reports and collaborate with electricity distribution companies to ensure the proper and transparent allocation of electricity meters, guaranteeing that deserving recipients receive their entitlements fairly and promptly.
