Chanesar Town Chairman Released After Plaintiff Withdraws Charges
Chanesar Town Chairman, Farhan Ghani, and other individuals who were suspects in an assault case have been discharged from police detention. This action follows the retraction of accusations by the complainant in the matter.
Farhan Ghani, the sibling of Saeed Ghani, had turned himself in to law enforcement officials the previous week. This occurred after a First Information Report (FIR) was lodged against him at the Ferozabad police precinct. The complaint was filed by a government employee, Hafiz Sohail, who alleged an attack while overseeing fiber cable installation along a service road adjacent to Sharea Faisal on August 22.
The FIR cited Farhan and his associates on allegations including attempted homicide and terrorism, in conjunction with supplementary legal provisions.
During the day’s court session, the Investigation Officer (IO) reported to the court that the complainant had not presented substantial proof or the essential No Objection Certificate (NOC) pertaining to the excavation work.
He stated that the complainant had dropped the charges, indicating a desire not to continue with the case.
The police report also affirmed that no weaponry had been employed during the purported incident.
During the proceedings, the court also addressed concerns regarding the IO’s handling of the situation, specifically mentioning the absence of the required surety bonds for the accused parties.
In response, the IO provided the surety bonds report to the court.
Subsequently, the court made the decision to postpone the hearing until September 2.
In the prior hearing, Farhan refuted the claims, asserting that he was simply passing by and noticed unauthorized digging. He contended that, as Town Chairman, he possessed the authority to question any “unauthorized activity.”
“I only requested that they present the permission letter [NOC]. Upon their failure to do so, I instructed them to cease operations. I did not assault anyone,” Farhan stated to the court earlier in the week.
