PSB Enforces New Sports Funding Regulations for Enhanced Transparency

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) has implemented the ‘sports funding regulations 2025,’ a restructured system intended to promote openness, responsibility, and merit-based allocation of government funds to various sports federations.

As per the guidelines, federations looking for monetary aid are now required to present annual performance evaluations, comprehensive operational strategies, and projected budgets.

The PSB has stated that funding will be limited to pre-approved athletes and authorities, and all transactions must occur via crossed checks or digital transfers. Any cash payment exceeding Rs. 25,000 is strictly forbidden.

According to the directive sanctioned by PSB Director General Muhammad Yasir Pirzada, the Board retains the power to launch financial assessments or audits whenever necessary.

The Auditor General of Pakistan may also scrutinize grants. Federations must have bank accounts needing two signatures for withdrawals and declare all income sources, including sponsorships and contributions.

Furthermore, they should conduct yearly audits by a recognized auditor and release the findings publicly.

Pirzada noted that these regulations seek to guarantee effective and performance-oriented use of public money, promoting fairness and responsibility.

He added, “Through these actions, our goal is to introduce greater clarity and equity into the distribution of sports funding.”

The regulations also state that any unused funds following an event must be reimbursed within a month unless the PSB has granted prior written consent.

Any extra costs resulting from prolonged stays must be covered by the concerned people or organizations.

Non-compliance with these rules, submission of insufficient paperwork, or misuse of funds may lead to the suspension of future financing, disciplinary measures, or the blacklisting of the involved federation or person.

The PSB clarified that grant approvals remain at its own discretion and cannot be considered an entitlement. The Board also maintains the right to alter, ease, or add additional requirements in the country’s best interests.

With the adoption of these regulations, all earlier notifications and policies have been declared invalid; however, any financial support previously issued under the former rules will still be honored.
