Pakistan Announces Squad for ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) revealed its 15-member squad on Monday for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, scheduled from September 30 to November 2. Fatima Sana has been named as the team’s captain for this significant competition.

The same squad will also participate in a three-match ODI series against South Africa, to be held at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore from September 16-22.

Fatima Sana to Lead Pakistan

Fatima Sana, who has previously represented Pakistan in the Women’s World Cup, will take on the captaincy role for the first time in a major tournament. Earlier this year, the 23-year-old successfully led the team in the ICC Women’s CWC Qualifier in Lahore, securing a flawless victory record and qualifying for this year’s World Cup, which will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.

Pakistan will compete in all their group-stage matches at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo. Should the team progress to the semi-final on October 29 and the final on November 2, both matches will also take place in Colombo.

Six Players Set for World Cup Debut

A total of six players are set to make their debut in the ODI World Cup. These players include Natalia Parvaiz, Rameen Shamim, Sadaf Shamas, Sadia Iqbal, Shawaal Zulfiqar, and Syeda Aroob Shah.

Eyman Fatima, an uncapped right-handed batter who recently debuted in T20Is against Ireland, has also been named in the ODI squad.

Aroob, Shawaal, and Eyman also played for Pakistan in the inaugural ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup in South Africa in January 2023.

Squad Adjustments and Reserves

Two changes have been made to the squad since the ICC Women’s CWC Qualifier. Eyman Fatima and Sadaf Shamas have been brought in, replacing Gull Feroza and Najiha Alvi. Gull Feroza, Najiha Alvi, Tuba Hassan, Umm-e-Hani, and Waheeda Akhtar will serve as the five non-traveling reserves.

The 15 primary players, along with the reserves, are scheduled to participate in a 14-day pre-series camp, commencing on Friday, August 29.

Under the guidance of head coach Muhammad Wasim, the team will engage in intensive practice sessions and 50-over practice matches. The South African women’s cricket team is expected to arrive in Lahore on September 12.
