Changes Imminent in National Selection Committee
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly planning an overhaul of the national selection committee, with significant changes expected. Sources indicate that Azhar Ali, Asad Shafiq, and Aleem Dar are likely to be relieved of their duties.
According to inside information, the PCB intends to replace several selectors to ensure the selection of deserving and emerging players is based on sound reasoning and merit, rather than simply rubber-stamping pre-existing choices.
Restructuring Plans
The national team’s selection process will be managed by a newly structured committee. It is anticipated that nearly all current selectors will be replaced, with the possible exception of Aqib Javed.
Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan’s T20I Future
Furthermore, sources have revealed that a definitive decision has been made regarding the inclusion of Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan in the T20I squad. However, both players may still participate in the ODI and Test formats.
Well-placed PCB insiders suggest that Asad and Azhar have had limited involvement in recent selection procedures. Aleem’s continuation in his role is also considered unlikely.
During the recent series against Bangladesh, Asad and Azhar were not involved in the final selection of the 16-member squad, which was overseen by team director Mike Hesson.
In a related development, two former Test cricketers were unexpectedly invited to an Islamabad selection meeting to offer their insights. However, their ongoing association with the selection committee remains uncertain.
The meeting saw the participation of Mike Hesson, Salman Ali Agha, Aqib, Aleem, and Hasan Cheema. Sources further stated that prior to the series against New Zealand, the PCB organized a session where selectors were consulted, with a mentor present to gather feedback on team selection strategies.
