Mohammad Yousuf Resigns as Batting Coach

LAHORE: Former Pakistan captain and celebrated batsman Mohammad Yousuf has resigned from his position as batting coach for both the national cricket team and the National Cricket Academy (NCA), citing personal reasons.

Sources indicate that Yousuf submitted his resignation to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), thereby concluding his recent tenure as coach.

He had been mentoring emerging players at the NCA, and also served as the national team’s batting coach during their tour of New Zealand earlier this year.

On March 4, the former right-handed batsman was appointed batting coach of the men’s national team, succeeding Shahid Aslam prior to the New Zealand tour. He was not, however, a part of the coaching staff for the recent home series against Bangladesh.

This is not the first instance of Yousuf stepping down from a significant role within the PCB. He previously resigned from the national selection committee last year, also citing personal reasons, which he announced via a post on social media platform X.

“Serving this incredible team has been a profound privilege, and I am proud to have contributed to the growth and success of Pakistan cricket,” he stated.

“I have immense faith in the talent and spirit of our players, and wish our team all the best as they continue to strive for greatness.”

At the time, the PCB acknowledged his departure, expressing gratitude for his contributions to the team.

The cricket board conveyed its sincere appreciation to Mohammad Yousuf for his valuable contributions during his time as a selection committee member.

Notably, the former captain also held the position of head coach for the Pakistan U-19 team, which achieved third place in the ICC U-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2024 in South Africa.

The PCB has not yet announced who will replace Yousuf at the NCA.
