Pakistani Junior Squash Players Shine at Asian Championships
Pakistani junior squash athletes experienced a fruitful start at the 32nd Asian Junior Individual Championships. On Tuesday, they achieved victory in nine out of eleven matches contested across various age groups.
Boys Under-19
Abdullah Nawaz dominated his match against Sri Lanka’s Tharul Pinwatta with scores of 11-5, 11-4, and 11-7. Similarly, Anas Ali Shah secured his place in the pre-quarterfinals by defeating Indonesia’s Muhammad Razka Idhmi Sulaeman with scores of 11-3, 11-5, and 11-6.
Boys Under-15
Top-seeded Nauman Khan delivered an outstanding performance in the Boys Under-15 event, overpowering Thailand’s Aisoon Jadkham with a score of 11-0, 11-0, 11-3. Ahmad Rayyan Khalil, another Pakistani player, demonstrated his skill by winning against Sri Lanka’s Lonitha Bimsandu with a score of 11-4, 11-0, 11-0.
Boys Under-17
In the Boys Under-17 category, Muhammad Umair Arif triumphed over Hong Kong’s Lau Pak To with scores of 11-3, 11-8, and 11-9. However, Yahya Khan lost to Malaysia’s Ivan Chang Jia Yu with scores of 8-11, 5-11, 11-6, 11-1, and 11-6, despite having a two-game lead.
Girls Under-13, 15 & 17
Pakistan’s female players also made notable achievements. Mahnoor Ali (Girls Under-13) conceded only two points in her overwhelming victory against Thailand’s Prinprapha Palapipat, with scores of 11-0, 11-1, and 11-1.
Sehrish Ali (Girls Under-15) won against Macau’s Cao Chi Ian with scores of 13-11, 11-5, and 11-7, while Mehwish Ali (Girls Under-17) defeated South Korea’s Yeona Kang with a score of 11-0, 11-2, and 11-1.
Boys Under-13
Muhammad Mustafa Khan faced a setback in the Boys Under-13 category, losing to Malaysia’s Muhammad Sharhan bin Mohd Saiful with scores of 13-11, 11-8, and 11-9.
Sohail Adnan, who is top-seeded, was granted a bye for the first round and will commence his matches on Wednesday.
