Pakistani Junior Squash Players Shine at Asian Championship
Pakistani junior squash athletes showcased impressive skill on the second day of the 32nd Asian Junior Squash Championship in Gimcheon, Korea. Six players have successfully moved into the quarterfinals following significant victories, notably against their Indian counterparts.
Victories and Defeats
- In the boys under-19 category, Abdullah Nawaz displayed dominance over India’s Tavneet Singh Mundra, securing a straight-game win with scores of 11-4, 11-5, and 11-6.
- However, Anas Shah’s journey was cut short in a closely contested five-game match against India’s Yusha Nafees, with scores of 11-7, 11-13, 3-11, 11-4, and 5-11.
Under-15 Highlights
- Ahmed Rayan Khalil achieved a significant upset in the Boys Under-15 category, defeating India’s second-seeded Shreyansh Jha in straight games, with scores of 11-4, 11-5, and 12-10.
- Nauman Khan, the top seed, delivered a commanding performance against Malaysia’s Muhammad Ifwat bin Zulkifli, winning 11-6, 11-2, and 11-2.
Other Age Categories
- In the boys under-13 category, top seed Sohail Adnan kept Pakistan’s momentum alive by overpowering Malaysia’s Mior El Fayedh Bin Mior Ahmad Nazril with scores of 11-3, 11-4, and 11-5.
- In the boys U17 event, Umar Arif from Pakistan was defeated by Subhash a Chaudhary of India with scores of 11-7, 11-9, and 13-11.
Girls’ Performances
- On the girls’ side, Mahnoor Ali clinched a decisive victory against Hong Kong’s Cheung Hei Kwai Myra with scores of 11-8, 11-2, and 11-7 in the girls under-13 event.
- Sehrish Ali, Mahnoor’s sister, also secured a win in the girls under-15 category, defeating Hong Kong’s Chiu Hau Ching in four games with scores of 14-12, 11-6, 6-11, and 11-7.
- However, Mehwish Ali, the eldest of the siblings, could not progress in the girls under-17 event, losing to Hong Kong’s Chung Yee Ling Elaine with scores of 11-13, 11-5, 13-11, and 11-4.
The championship is ongoing, with quarterfinal matches scheduled as Pakistani players strive for further triumphs in the competition.
