Shadab Khan Likely to Miss Asia Cup 2025 Due to Injury
Lahore: Mohammad Haris is being seriously considered as a potential replacement for Shadab Khan as the T20I vice-captain of the Pakistan cricket team. This consideration arises due to ongoing concerns about Shadab Khan’s fitness.
Sources indicated that Shadab Khan is anticipated to undergo surgery on his right shoulder in the UK to address a recurring issue. This medical procedure may keep him off the field for approximately three months.
Consequently, the seasoned all-rounder is projected to be absent during an important period of Pakistan’s white-ball schedule. This includes the T20I series in Bangladesh in July, the tour of the West Indies in August, a proposed tri-nation series with Afghanistan and the UAE, and potentially the Asia Cup in 2025.
Haris, who brings captaincy experience from leading domestic teams like Pakistan A and Pakistan Shaheens, is under consideration to fill the vice-captain role while Shadab is unavailable.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced that all three T20I matches will take place at the Shere-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka, with each match beginning at 5:00 PM Pakistan Standard Time.
Preparations for the series will begin with a training camp on July 8 at the National Bank Cricket Arena in Karachi.
Information suggests that Naseem Shah and Mohammad Wasim Jr. are also experiencing fitness issues, casting doubt on their participation in the upcoming matches.
Additionally, Salman Mirza, a prominent fast bowler for Lahore Qalandars in the recent PSL season, is expected to be named to the national squad.
Salman made a significant impact during PSL 9, securing nine wickets in four games with an average of 15.00 and an economy rate of 9.64.
The Pakistan team is scheduled to arrive in Bangladesh on July 16. The T20I series is set to commence on July 20, with subsequent matches on July 22 and 24.
The last encounter between the two teams was in May of this year, where Pakistan achieved a 3-0 series victory on their home ground.
Series Schedule in Bangladesh
- First T20I: July 20
- Second T20I: July 22
- Third T20I: July 24
