Pakistan’s military has conducted retaliatory strikes targeting terrorist hideouts and Afghan Taliban regime personnel inside Afghanistan following unprovoked aggression along the border. The Director General of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, announced that these actions, carried out on February 21 and 22, resulted in the deaths of at least 274 Taliban personnel and terrorists, with over 400 others injured. Pakistan’s armed forces also destroyed numerous Afghan Taliban posts and took 18 checkposts into custody. The operation, named Ghazab lil-Haq, was a response to firing incidents along 15 sectors and 53 locations on the Pakistan-Afghan border. The ISPR chief stated that Pakistani forces neutralized key enemy positions, including brigade headquarters in Kandahar and Kabul, and destroyed 115 tanks and armored vehicles. The operation also targeted hideouts associated with ‘Fitna al-Hindustan’ and ‘Fitna al-Khawarij’. During the exchange, 12 Pakistani security personnel were martyred and 27 were injured. Lt Gen Chaudhry warned that Pakistan would not tolerate terrorism and would respond decisively to any attacks, holding those who provide shelter to terrorists accountable. He emphasized that Afghanistan must choose between supporting terror outfits and maintaining relations with Pakistan. The military is prepared for threats on both its eastern and western borders. The information minister stated that multiple small drones launched by terrorists were also neutralized. The Defense Minister described the situation as an “open war,” asserting that national security would not be compromised. International actors, including China, Iran, and Malaysia, have called for de-escalation, while Kabul has expressed a desire for dialogue to resolve the tensions.
