Frontline Lady Health Workers (LHWs) in Pakistan have launched the All Lady Health Worker Programme Union (ALPU) to secure a defined service structure, fair compensation, and a stronger collective voice. Supported by NOWCommunities under its “Women’s Voice & Leadership” project and backed by the Sindh Health Department, ALPU aims to address long-standing concerns over wages, job classification, and working conditions.

A landmark consultative meeting brought together health officials, union leaders, and LHWs to discuss systemic reforms—especially in Sindh—focused on formalizing employment status, career progression, and workplace support services. Provincial health authorities pledged to prioritize these changes, marking a significant shift toward professional recognition and labor rights for community health professionals.

As the first national organization of its kind, ALPU represents a transformative step for Pakistan’s public health sector. By advocating for improved working conditions, job security, and gender-responsive policies, the union empowers over 100,000 Lady Health Workers nationwide, enhancing both healthcare delivery and women’s participation in health governance.
