Recent Weather Data Shows Extremes in Pakistan

Pakistan has experienced significant weather anomalies recently, with the past month being the seventh driest and second hottest April in the last 65 years, according to data from the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

According to the PMD, the country’s average temperature in April reached 27.91 degrees Celsius, exceeding the long-term average of 24.54°C by 3.37°C.

Daytime and Night-time Temperatures

The average maximum daytime temperature was notably high at 36.40°C, which is 4.66°C above the normal average of 31.74°C. This marks the second-highest average daytime temperature for April in the past 65 years.

Night-time temperatures also increased, with an average of 19.36°C, surpassing the typical average of 16.80°C by 2.57°C.

Rainfall Deficit

Rainfall in April was significantly below average, with a 59% deficit, making it one of the driest Aprils since 1960.

Implications of Climate Change

This considerable variation highlights the increasing influence of climate change on the nation’s climate patterns. These extreme conditions could severely affect agriculture, water availability, and public health, particularly as the summer heat intensifies.

Notably, a surge in gastrointestinal ailments has been reported recently, coinciding with the start of the summer season.
