PM Shehbaz Sharif Advocates for US Investment in Pakistan’s Minerals Sector

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has affirmed his government’s commitment to collaborating with President Donald Trump and his administration to bolster bilateral relations between Pakistan and the United States.

The Prime Minister expressed this sentiment during a meeting on Wednesday with a US delegation headed by Eric Meyer, the senior bureau official and acting assistant secretary of the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs at the US Department of State.

The US officials’ visit to PM Shehbaz in Islamabad occurred during the Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum, a two-day conference held on April 8-9.

PM Shehbaz welcomed the US participation in the forum, highlighting the substantial opportunities within Pakistan’s minerals sector and encouraging US companies to invest in this priority area.

He emphasised the importance of Pakistan-US relations, not only bilaterally but also for regional peace and security, as well as enhanced cooperation in trade, investment, and counter-terrorism.

Acting Assistant Secretary Meyer commended Pakistan for its successful hosting of the Pakistan Mineral Investment Forum.

Meyer acknowledged the potential of Pakistan’s mineral sector and conveyed the interest of US companies in investing in this area. He also expressed the US desire to collaborate with Pakistan on matters of mutual interest.

Meyer stated that the US is looking forward to strengthening its bilateral ties with Pakistan.

The meeting was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Division Ahad Khan Cheema, Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik, SAPM Tariq Fatemi, and other high-ranking government officials.
