Historic Win for Pakistan Women’s Football Team

The Pakistan women’s football team achieved a significant milestone on Wednesday, securing a convincing 2-0 victory against Indonesia, the host nation, in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Women’s Asian Cup Qualifiers at the Stadium Sport Centre.

The green shirts commenced the crucial match energetically, with Nadia Khan scoring the opening goal in the 8th minute.

Suha Irani extended their advantage by successfully converting a penalty just 10 minutes later.

Despite creating several opportunities, the Indonesian team was unable to score, as Pakistan’s goalkeeper, Zeeyana Jivraj, proved impenetrable.

This triumph holds immense importance for the Pakistan women’s football team, marking their first victory since September 2023 and against a higher-ranked team.

Pakistan is currently ranked 157th in the FIFA women’s football rankings, while Indonesia holds the 95th position.

With this momentum, the green shirts are set to face the Kyrgyz Republic on July 5 in their final group-stage match.

This momentous victory also propelled Pakistan to the third spot in Group D of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup Qualifiers, surpassing the Kyrgyz Republic, who have suffered defeats in both their matches against Chinese Taipei and Indonesia.

Earlier in the campaign, Pakistan faced a setback with an 8-0 defeat against Chinese Taipei, who currently lead the standings with six points and an 11-goal difference.
