Sarfraz Ahmed Joins Pakistan Baseball Team as Fielding Coach

LAHORE: The Pakistan Baseball Federation (PBF) announced the appointment of Sarfraz Ahmed, a former player, as the fielding coach for the national baseball team on Wednesday.

Ahmed’s inaugural assignment will be the Asian Baseball Championship, scheduled to take place in China from September 22nd to 28th.

Fakhar Ali Shah, the Secretary of the Pakistan Baseball Federation, verified Sarfraz Ahmed’s recruitment, noting that the coaching staff is now at full strength.

He stated, “With Sarfraz Ahmed on board, the coaching unit is now complete. Sarfraz Ahmed is a former international athlete and possesses coaching expertise.”
“An experienced coaching team has been assembled for the Asian Baseball Championship.”

Notably, the Asian Baseball Championship is slated to occur in China between September 22nd and 28th.

Furthermore, the PFB has enlisted the services of Japanese coach Kazuto Nonaka to aid in preparations for the forthcoming Asian Baseball Championship.

Since May, Nonaka has been working alongside Faisal Hayat and Musharraf, two of Pakistan’s most promising players, during a specialized training program in Japan.

The PFB has also designated national team player Alex Khan as the head coach for the Pakistan Under-18 team for the U-18 World Cup qualifiers in 2026.

Alex, who has also served as a pitcher for the senior team and represented Pakistan at the 2022 World Baseball Classic, is also a member of the squad for this year’s Asian Championship.

According to Shah, Alex’s wide-ranging experience with junior baseball made him the perfect choice for the coaching position.

Shah further disclosed plans for the federation to arrange a training camp for the U-18 team in the United States, given the limited advanced baseball facilities in Pakistan.

He mentioned that 15 players will be chosen for the development initiative, which is designed to provide young talent with exposure at the international level and preparation ahead of the qualifiers.
