Pakistan and Micronesia Establish Diplomatic Ties
Pakistan and the Federated States of Micronesia formally commenced diplomatic relations on Thursday. The agreement was signed during a ceremony at Pakistan’s Mission to the United Nations in New York.
Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, and Ambassador Jeem S Lippwe, his Micronesian counterpart, formalized the agreement, according to a statement from the Pakistan’s mission to the UN.
Senior diplomats from both nations, including Pakistan’s Deputy Permanent Representative Usman Jadoon, attended the event.
Speaking at the occasion, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad expressed his delight that the establishment of diplomatic relations coincided with Pakistan’s Independence Day anniversary.
He stated that these ties would create possibilities for collaboration in human resources, capacity enhancement, and climate change. He added that both Missions would collaborate closely on crucial topics, especially the promotion of global peace and security at the United Nations.
Asim Iftikhar noted that he was pleased to learn Pakistan was the 100th country to establish relations with Micronesia.
In his address, Ambassador Lippwe conveyed his enthusiasm for the beginning of a new phase in bilateral relations. He stated that he felt privileged to represent his nation at the commencement of a journey of friendship and partnership with Pakistan.
He thanked Pakistan for its support in opening United Nations offices in Micronesia and said he anticipated working closely with his Pakistani counterpart to deepen the bond of friendship.
He also extended his congratulations on Pakistan’s Independence Day.
Prior to the ceremony, the ambassadors met briefly and discussed potential areas of cooperation, both bilaterally and at the UN.
