Padres Dominate Giants with Seven-Run Inning
SAN FRANCISCO: The San Diego Padres showcased their offensive power as Jake Cronenworth and Fernando Tatis Jr. each knocked in two runs with singles during a remarkable seven-run second inning. This surge propelled the Padres to a decisive 11-1 triumph over the San Francisco Giants, securing a clean sweep in their three-game series at Oracle Park on Wednesday.
The Padres seized control early, overwhelming Giants pitcher Kai-Wei Teng in the second. Cronenworth initiated the scoring spree with a two-run single, and Tatis quickly followed, doubling the lead with another single that brought in two more runs.
Luis Arraez then added a sacrifice fly, and Manny Machado’s double led to a throwing error by left fielder Heliot Ramos. A passed ball from catcher Patrick Bailey punctuated the early scoring burst.
San Diego continued to apply pressure in the fifth inning, as Ryan O’Hearn drove in a run with a double, and Ramon Laureano launched his 17th home run of the season, a two-run shot to left field.
Tatis further padded the lead with an RBI single in the seventh, concluding the game 2-for-4 with three RBIs.
Laureano was a standout in the Padres’ 14-hit barrage, going 3-for-5 and scoring three times. Cronenworth and O’Hearn each recorded two hits, while Xander Bogaerts crossed home plate twice.
On the pitching side, Nick Pivetta (12-4) maintained his impressive form, conceding only one run on four hits across 6 2/3 innings. He held a shutout until the seventh when Jung Hoo Lee tripled and subsequently scored on Christian Koss’s sacrifice fly, which accounted for the Giants’ lone run.
Teng’s outing was cut short, lasting just 1 2/3 innings in his third major league appearance. He allowed seven runs (six earned) on four hits and issued four walks, without managing a strikeout.
Over the three-game series, the Padres outscored the Giants 25-3 and out-hit them 34-20. This marks their sixth game this season with double-digit runs.
San Francisco, conversely, has now lost five consecutive games, scoring only one run in each of the series games, highlighting their ongoing offensive struggles.
