Orioles Secure Victory Against Mariners in Series Opener
SEATTLE: The Baltimore Orioles defeated the Seattle Mariners in the first game of their three-game series at T-Mobile Park on Tuesday. Tomoyuki Sugano’s impressive pitching performance led the Orioles to a 5-1 victory.
Sugano delivered a stellar performance, pitching seven innings and permitting only one run on five hits. He also recorded one walk and five strikeouts during his time on the mound.
Rowdy Tellez managed to hit a 404-foot home run to right field, briefly leveling the score at 1-1.
The Orioles initiated the scoring in the first inning when Adley Rutschman, Gunnar Henderson, and Ryan O’Hearn connected for consecutive one-out singles. Ramon Urias then drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.
Baltimore regained the lead in the fifth inning, thanks to another RBI single from O’Hearn, who concluded the game with two hits.
George Kirby sustained an injury towards the end of the fifth when Urias hit a line drive toward his face. Fortunately, Kirby raised his hand in time to deflect the ball, which then bounced to first baseman Tellez for the final out.
Kirby exited the game with a bleeding mouth but assured reporters that he was fine after the game.
The Orioles extended their lead in the ninth inning. Coby Mayo singled, and Heston Kjerstad doubled him home. Jackson Holliday then followed with an RBI single.
The two teams are scheduled to compete in the second game of the series on Wednesday at the same venue.
