Usyk Predicts Itauma as Future Heavyweight Champion

Oleksandr Usyk, the undefeated heavyweight champion nearing the end of his boxing career, has identified Moses Itauma as a potential future undisputed heavyweight champion, according to international reports.

Usyk is preparing to face Daniel Dubois in a rematch scheduled for July 19 at Wembley Stadium in London. Their initial bout occurred in August 2023, where Usyk secured victory in Poland with a ninth-round knockout after twice dropping Dubois. The fight, however, stirred controversy when Usyk was struck by a punch deemed a low blow by officials.

Earlier this year, Usyk indicated that he anticipates only two more fights before retiring. As his career winds down, speculation is growing regarding who might emerge as the next dominant force in the heavyweight division. Usyk believes that Itauma possesses the necessary qualities to achieve superstardom.

“Moses Itauma, I believe, is an exceptional fighter. He is young, just 20 years old. I foresee a significant future for Itauma,” Usyk commented.

Itauma, an undefeated heavyweight, has garnered attention in recent years, boasting a record of 12 wins and no losses, with 10 victories achieved by knockout.

Two-time heavyweight champion Tyson Fury also recognizes Itauma’s talent, having sparred with him in preparation for his first encounter with Usyk in May 2024.

Speaking about the emerging boxer’s capabilities, Fury, known as the ‘Gypsy King,’ noted that Itauma is a skilled fighter who readily applies advice. “One thing I can say about Moses is that he is a capable fighter and a good boxer. He absorbs information like a sponge; he listens and implements what you tell him. And he’s only 20 years old,” Fury stated.

Fury added, “I advised him years ago not to focus on breaking records but to savor his career, as it passes quickly. I recall being 19 or 20, and now I’m 36, and the time has flown by.”
