Amid rising concerns over the resurgence of polio in Pakistan, the Standing Committee on National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination (NHSR&C) has recommended a multi-faceted approach to tackle the disease.

In a recent session, the committee emphasized that vaccination alone is not enough. To effectively contain the spread of polio, authorities must also prioritize improvements in sanitation, drainage systems, and environmental protection across vulnerable regions.

Committee members highlighted that poor hygiene, stagnant water, and unclean surroundings are contributing to the persistence of the virus. They called for urgent inter-departmental coordination to address these challenges alongside routine immunization drives.

“A comprehensive strategy involving health, sanitation, and environment sectors is essential to eliminate polio from Pakistan,” the committee stressed.

The committee’s recommendations aim to support national eradication efforts and prevent further outbreaks, particularly in high-risk urban and rural areas.
