35th National Games Rescheduled for December in Karachi

The revised dates for the 35th National Games of Pakistan have been formally announced. The event will now be held in Karachi from December 6 to 13.

This adjustment follows a postponement earlier in the year due to severe summer heat and heatwave warnings in Sindh.

Originally planned to commence on May 1, the games were delayed approximately two weeks prior, prompted by concerns over the climate.

Sindh Sports Secretary Aleem Lashari stated that the revised dates were selected to ensure the games are conducted under more favorable weather conditions.

“Presently, preparations are in progress for the December event. The new schedule aims to allow athletes to compete optimally, avoiding health risks,” he mentioned.

The Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) has communicated with all sports federations, associations, and involved institutions.

These communications seek comprehensive details regarding participant numbers, logistical arrangements, and the budgetary requirements for organizing the games.

It is important to note that the National Games serve as the nation’s primary multi-sport competition, organized through collaboration between the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB), the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA), and the host province.

The games are significantly important, uniting athletes from across Pakistan in a diverse array of sports.

Historically, the Pakistan Army has been the most successful group in the Games, securing victory in 28 of the 34 official editions contested to date.

Lahore, recognized as Pakistan’s cultural center, has hosted the event on 10 occasions, making it the most frequent host city. Other major cities, such as Karachi, Islamabad, and Peshawar, have also been venues for the Games.
